100 families to get homes decked out for Christmas

A decorating company wants to make the holidays a little brighter for military families whose loved ones are deployed during the holidays.

Christmas Décor, a Texas-based holiday and event decorating company, will select 100 families of service members deployed overseas from nominations online and will designing and installing their decorations for free.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 1.

The value of the decorations will depend on the families selected, because costs vary from house to house. But Christmas Décor has done decorations that are worth more than $50,000, according to company spokeswoman Brittany Roth.

Families can nominate themselves or another military family. The company has 375 franchise locations in 48 states. Families living in the other two states — Hawaii and South Dakota — cannot be considered for the contest, because it is too far to send a decorating team from another franchise, Roth said. For the same reasons, families living overseas cannot be considered.

Nominators must submit an essay of 350 words or less describing why the family should receive the Christmas decoration treatment; space for the essay is included in the brief online application. None of the information submitted will be used for marketing or other reasons, Roth said.

If selected, the family will be contacted by a Christmas Décor designer from a nearby franchise, who will design a custom holiday display for their home and suggest options for the family. A crew will install the decorations before Dec. 15.

At the end of the season, Christmas Décor will return and take down the display.
